This layout was started last in 2009 and is being built by 5 juniors members and their parents, all model in OO gauge.

A track plan was devised and include a 2 track circuit, Station, Goods Yard and Locomotive maintenace facitlity.  Due to a wide range of locomotives that the ’Juniors’ collect there will be no set era or region to this layout, so anything from a EWS Diesel with wagons could be running alongside A4  ’Mallard’ with Maroon coaches.

The ‘Juniors’ always appreciate help from our older members and always accept new help.

This is an 18 ft layout built in Gauge 1, by a group of the clubs Gauge 1 modellers. This layout has been designed as a ‘Shunting Challenge’ and has been in the NDMRC’s exhibitions, it has also been to other exhibitions and railways shows throughout the county.

An “N” gauge complete layout on one large board, it has a double oval and passing loop with shunting facilities. This is looked after by one of our members.

A new “0″ gauge layout is being built using 8 4ft x 2ft 7inch and 1 3ft x 2 ft 7inch boards that have been built by a team of members spearheaded by a master baseboard builder. The track plan has been designed to be a preserved railway with platform and a BR station with platform. These are then connected by a special crossover brought by one of our members.

As our “0” gauge members have a range of stock, representing different periods and regions, to build a layout as a preserved railway means that any of these can be run. Also a couple of our members have more modern stock, which will on the BR line.

This layout is currently at the stage of track-laying as the plan was drawn up using a computer software called ‘AnyRail’.

A “00″ gauge end to end. This also started off at Duston with the stripping and cleaning up of 4 boards from a previous layout, once cleaned and resurfaced with new top boards then gave us a total space of 16ft x 2inch, rough plans were sketched out , full scale drawings were then drawn onto lining paper and submitted for approval. Once this was done many points such as small sized platforms, locomotive facillites and turning of loco’s was aired.

This resulted in new boards being added giving an end length of (24ft 6inch x 2ft).Peco code 100 was used and the layout has been wired so that if any of our members have digital locos, which at the moment most don’t, then it could be converted easily.

Most of the points are rod operated with a switch that also changes polarity, all rails have been rust painted and ballasted. Most buildings on the layout are or have been built and weathered by our master modellers. This layout is set in the 50’s/60’s (Steam-Diesel transition period) with a range of stock from most regions in use. There is even a London Transport Line.

A multi gauge test track. Ideas for this first started during our time at the Boys Brigade HQ in Duston, only after we moved to Camp Hill did we have room to cut timber and assemble into the large oval that we now have. Track was purchased and then laid over a period of weeks, wiring progressed soon after, and ballasting was mentioned but in the end black paint was used instead, ballasting may still be an option later. Seven tracks in gauges “N” to “G”. Tracks from inside are, 2 “00″ tracks, 3 “0″ tracks and 1 “G” scale track and this has the “N” gauge track inside (only able to run “N” or “G”, obvious reasons). This has had a major rewiring job done to try to eliminate a fall off in power at certain points around the oval.
